Matrix Mental Health

When it comes to treating mental health disorders, medications are only a piece of the puzzle. While they can be incredibly effective in managing symptoms, they are rarely a standalone solution. Medications can help balance chemicals in the brain and provide relief from symptoms such as anxiety, depression, or mood swings.

Many people, including myself, wish that we could simply take a pill and have all of our difficulties resolved. We want the quick solution, the easiest path, but life generally does not support this. I often equate mental health to adequate oral hygiene, aka brushing your teeth. If we skip a week or a month of brushing out teeth our mouth becomes full of bacteria and smells terrible. Mental health is like this, it is something we must work on daily. This can be through reading, physical activity, journaling, meditation, or a wide variety of other coping skills, all of which require effort from the individual. Is it easy? Certainly not, yet it can be done.

Effort and commitment are essential. It’s about creating a balanced life, finding what pieces fit, and recognizing that it is an ever-evolving process. Medications can help along the way, but they are just one piece of the intricate puzzle of mental health treatment. Embracing a holistic approach can lead to more sustainable and fulfilling outcomes.
